Addressing the media here on Tuesday, along with the family members of a Dalit, who committed suicide unable digest the humiliation from the upper caste people in East Godavari district, he said that one Yedla Chinna of Patha Thungapadu village in Rajanagaram Mandal in East Godavari district committed suicide by consuming pesticide on March 23 this year as the people from upper caste have tried to encroach his land.
He recalled that 50 cents of land is only the property that Chinna’s family owns. Later, police, as well as the revenue officials, assured compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the victim’s family from the government. But, the local District Superintendent of Police (DSP) and the revenue officials have made the people who are responsible for the death of Chinna to pay Rs 1 lakh for the victim’s family.
He questioned the rationality of the officials who asked the oppressor to pay the compensation. Though the SC/ST atrocity case was filed against the accused, who were responsible for the death of Dalit, he lamented that no arrests were made in this connection till date. He alleged that the revenue officials and police are supporting the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders who humiliated Dalits.
He demanded the suspension of the revenue officials and police, including local District Superintendent of Police (DSP) and MRO, for acting against Dalits. Yedla Chinnari, sister of the deceased, demanded the arrest of the husband of local MPP Bacchu Prasdad, Boyidi Seethayya, Kadari Ayyanna, Boyidi Nooka Raju and Ambati Venkata Rao, who are responsible for the death of her brother, Yedla Chinna.
