Vijayawada: The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) Gunadala Employees Colony Development Society submitted a representation
to Mayor Koneru Sridhar on Wednesday, requesting the latter to take measures for the development of the colony site located near
Gunadala railway station. The society president, P Anjaiah, and secretary G Venkata Rao told the Mayor that the VMC had allotted the
plots 10 years ago but the VMC was not laying roads and drinking water pipelines.

They said the VMC had collected more than Rs 8 crore from the society members four years ago and not taking up measures for the
development of colony. They said that the civic body had not started the construction of pucca roads, drains, laying of power supply lines
and other works.

Responding to it, the Mayor, Sridhar, said instructions were given for laying pipelines to the Gunadala Colony under AMRUT scheme and
assured that other development works would be taken up in a phased manner. The VMC purchased 53 acres land from an NRI nearly 15
years ago and divided into the plots. The society members purchased the plots on payment of money prescribed by the VMC. Later, the
VMC collected Rs 8 crore from the employees for the development of colony and allegedly diverted the funds for various other
development works.

Since then, over 700 VMC employees are eagerly waiting for the development of the VMC Employees’ Colony in Gunadala.
