Holds meeting with ministers on drought in AP

Vijayawada: Upset with the way BJP general secretary Siddharth Nath Singh made a statement alleging that the Chief Minister had not asked for special status, the Chandrababu Naidu government is now gearing up to take up the issue with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and complain him about the conflicting statements of BJP leaders that were creating problems for the alliance partners.

Naidu, who returned from his foreign tour on Sunday, convened a meeting of his Cabinet colleagues, including Deputy CM N Chinarajappa, Yanamala Ramakrishnudu and Kamineni Srinivas, at his residence to discuss the remarks of Siddarth Nath Singh.

Naidu is learnt to have expressed his dissatisfaction over the wrong information provided to the Central BJP leader. He felt that ministers like Kamineni Srinivas should have briefed Singh properly and told him that the Assembly had passed the resolution twice demanding special status.

Later talking to the media, Chinarajappa said the ministers were of the opinion that it was the responsibility of the Central government to award special status to AP. He said that there would be no compromise on this issue and that they would continue to fight for special status and additional funds for the state.

Ramakrishnudu said the CM had discussed special status and the provisions of the bifurcation Act. He said the TDP has been demanding special status right from the beginning and the Chief Minister would draw the attention of the Prime Minister towards the conflicting statements that were emanating from Parliament and the contradictory explanations being given by the BJP leaders outside. Naidu will explain the political implications of such statements.

In addition to this, the meeting also discussed the drought situation in the state and Naidu sought detailed information along with data so that he can make an effective presentation to the Prime Minister when he would meet him on Tuesday. Naidu is likely to give a power-point presentation to the Prime Minister.
