Visakhapatnam: The State government is thinking of developing Visakhapatnam as a critical industrial and export/import centre following the division of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh.

It is considering setting up an international brand city in Vizag, as it is being viewed as an ideal location. For this officials are getting ready with plans following instructions issued by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

If the plans materialise, investments worth crores would be coming, besides the city would be developed as a tourism centre.

The international brand city will also attract industries. Several fortune 500 companies usually conduct their business activities in international brand cities.

The products to be manufactured/involved in such activities will include items of daily use, personal beauty products, textiles, food-related items and motor vehicles.

This aspect has been taken to the notice of the Chief Minister by Harvard Square Technology partners’ team headed by Dr Rick Cordin, the facilitator.

It is learnt to have stated that 100 products could be introduced in the international brand city, thus paving the way for Vizag becoming a trendsetter in the country itself.

It is estimated that about 20 lakh tourists would visit the city and make purchases there. Lakhs of jobs both directly and indirectly will be possible.

According to GVMC Commissioner Praveen Kumar, there is a great patronage for international brand cities in the US, Japan and Singapore. Such cities are spread over in the US in hundreds of acres of land.

Big hotels, playgrounds and incubation centres are also available in these cities, attracting foreign visitors, who purchase various products available there.
