​Hyderabad: The MET office has forecast heavy rains in parts of Andhra Pradesh as the depression over southwest Bay of Bengal may intensify into a cyclone.

The depression concentrated close to Chennai city and it slowly moved towards northern direction and is now located on south-southeast of Nellore.

As a result of close proximity to seacoast, Nellore city has been witnessing severe gales. Following the deep depression in the Bay of Bengal which is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm during the next 24 to 36 hours is expected to cause heavy rains over Andhra Pradesh.

According to Skymet. the system currently lies about 120 km south-southeast of Nellore and the system will continue to move in a northeast direction along the Andhra coast. Strong winds with speed reaching between 50 to 90 kmph are likely along and off south and north coastal Andhra.

The MET office has forecast heavy rain at isolated places in the districts of Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam and Nellore and Chittoor, Anantapur, Kadapa and Kurnool on Thursday and Friday.

Hyderabad Meteorological Centre has forecast thunderstorm accompanies with squalls at isolated places in Telangana till 21 May.
