As part of the demolition drive being continued in various parts of Vijayawada city, the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) and revenue officials with the escort of police demolished the existing structures including a restaurant, dairy parlours, aquarium and others along the River canal on Sambamurthy road on late Saturday night.
Vijayawada: As part of the demolition drive being continued in various parts of Vijayawada city, the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) and revenue officials with the escort of police demolished the existing structures including a restaurant, dairy parlours, aquarium and others along the River canal on Sambamurthy road on late Saturday night.
The Krishna district administration is planning to construct a Rytu Bazaar on the River canal bund at a cost of Rs 4 crore. The proposed Rytu Bazaar will be along the Sambamurthy road from Alankar centre to Vijaya Talkies bridge. It may be recalled that the State government has decided to shift the Rytu Bazaar from Swarajya Maidan to Ryves canal bund.
As part of the efforts, the officials demolished some structures last week. During the second attempt on Saturday night, the officials disconnected the power supply and used heavy machinery to raze the structures to the ground. A restaurant, dairy parlour, aquarium etc were destroyed and razed to the ground.
Managing partner of a private restaurant B Srinivasa Rao alleged that the district administration was acting hastily and it had no respect for the High Court order. The irrigation department had transferred maintenance of canal bund land owned by it to the VMC. The VMC had entered into the agreement with the private party and gave the land for lease till 2019, said Srinivasa Rao.
He claimed that he obtained stay orders from the AP High Court in 2013 to continue the business till 2019 as per the agreement signed with the VMC. He alleged that the district administration had violated the agreement norms and demolished the restaurant. He said he was paying trade license fee to the VMC for many years and have right to continue the restaurant till 2019.
He said demolition was a contempt of court and he would move the High Court seeking justice. Construction of Rytu Bazaar on Sambamurty road will enhance the traffic problem on the busy road. Nearly 20 cinemas are located in Gandhi Nagar. Thousands of people visiting the cinemas will pass via Sambamurthy road.
With the construction of Rytu Bazaar traffic problem will increase on the road, said K Prabhakar, a steel shop trader. He said the Government instead of easing the traffic was increasing the traffic menace in the city by taking wrong decisions. He said shifting of Rytu Bazaar was a wrong decision and felt all people must oppose it.
