Eluru: A sarpanch was threatened at a gun point by an unruly village, at Gollala Kodera village in Palakoderu Mandal of West Godavari district on Sunday morning. According to police, Gollalakoderu sarpanch Gadiraju Venkata Suryanarayana Raju allotted 3 cents of Grama Kantham land out of six cents for a construction of a community hall for Brahmin community and a resolution was passed for the same.

On Sunday morning, the Brahmin leaders started construction work in the land. At this point of time, Penmatasa Ramakrishnam Raju of the same village objected to the construction and claimed that the land belonged to Kshatriya community for a long period and it has to be allotted only to them.

Getting to know about the fiasco, sarpanch Gadiraju Suryanarayana Raju reached the spot and tried to pacify him. A verbal duel ensued between sarpanch and Ramakrishnam Raju for some time and irked Raju fired around in the air with his double barrel gun which he brought along with him. Later, he put the gun near the ear of the sarpanch to threaten him and caused a scar on the ear.

Seeing the commotion, villagers rushed to the spot and caught Ramakrishnam Raju. Meanwhile, Palakoderu police on information reached the village and took the accused into their custody. When police shifted him to the police station, he fell unconscious, while the sarpanch formally lodged a complaint and police registered a case.
