Vijayawada: Ibrahimpatnam police on Monday foiled the attempts of Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS) founder president Manda Krishna Madiga to enter Vijayawada to hold a press conference at the press club in the city on Monday.

Krishna Madiga has been trying for permission from the State government to conduct Ratha Yatra as part of his struggle seeking categorisation of scheduled castes in the State. But, the State government is allegedly not giving permission for it citing law and order problems.

He visited Keesara village under Kanchikacharla mandal in Krishna district on Monday morning to console the family of MRPS activist, who was killed in a road accident. After this, he headed to Vijayawada. But the police prevented him from going ahead to Vijayawada and detained him in Ibrahimpatnam. However, he was released in the evening.

Earlier, the MRPS activists in Vijayawada announced that Krishna Madiga would hold a press conference at the press club at 11.30 a.m. Nearly 100 police men stood guard at the press club in Gandhi Nagar since morning. They arrested the MRPS leaders and activists who protested against the arrest of Krishna Madiga.

MRPS national president P Manikyala Rao, State president U Brahmaiah Madiga wondered why government had arrested Krishna Madiga. They alleged that TDP government was suppressing the rights of Dalits in the State. They said the arrest of Krishna Madiga was unlawful and demanded permission for conducting Viswa Rupa Radha Yatra by MRPS in the State for categorisation of SCs.
