Chandrababu to set up NTR canteens a la amma canteens in Vijayawada

The Andhra Pradesh government is planning to launch NTR canteens at Velagapudi where the temporary Secretariat building is coming up, by the end of June.

Idli-sambar and Pongal will be supplied as tiffins in the morning while lemon rice, sambar rice, and curd rice would be given as lunch in afternoon. However, the costs are yet to be determined. The government has also made plans to open the NTR canteens at two more places next month.

The government which is heading to shift the AP Secretariat by June 27 has already issued a circular asking the employees to make the shift by June 20 itself in order to begin the full-fledged work by the deadline. The employees, however, are facing issues over necessary facilities not being worked out at Velagapudi.

The NTR canteens for the people was a poll promise of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) where food would be served at affordable rates. A cabinet sub-committee comprising Civil Supplies Minister Paritala Sunitha, Agriculture Minister Prathipati Pulla Rao and Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana as members examined the Amma Canteen programme in the neighbouring state, Tamil Nadu.
