Vijayawada: As part of week-long awareness programme taken up by Forum for Child Rights to mark ‘World Day Against Child Labour’, a rally was flagged off followed by formation of human chain here on Wednesday.

The rally was launched at Patamata Zilla Parishad Girls High School by vice-president of Forum for Child Rights Fr Bala Showry, National Child Labour Project (NCLP) project director D Anjaneya Reddy and the Headmistress Vijaya Lakshmi.

The rally went through the streets of Industrial area in Auto Nagar. Children displayed placards that educated onlookers on child labor eradication and mandatory education.

The students formed a human chain at Auto Nagar. Speaking on the occasion, Anjaneya Reddy said that Krishna district had put up a commendable work at rescuing child labour and their number had come down to a great extent.

There was a need to encourage parents to see that they enroll their children in schools for their bright future. Organisations and volunteers should take the responsibility of spreading the message of child education and literacy, he said.

Prior to the rally, students at the school have vowed to preserve the rights and interests of fellow children by signing on the signature campaign chart. Later, they pledged for the same.

Representatives from labour department, women and child welfare department, CWC, DCPU, Municipal Corporation, Rajiv Vidya Mission, Sarva Sikshya Abhiyan and NGOs were present.
