Pithapuram: Assistant Director of Agriculture Department A Padmasri on Thursday called upon farmers to join hands to check the rat menace as it has been a great nuisance to the farmers. He said the negligence on the part of at least one farmer will lead to rats taking shelter in another farm.

In a farmer awareness programme held jointly with Reliance Foundation, Agriculture department officials distributed rodenticide to
eradicate rats.

Agriculture Additional Director asked farmers to act with caution as rodent menace has been posing a major problem to paddy growers in various parts of the district.

Since there was no Dalwa crop on account of drought, rats are taking shelter in farms digging holes. If they are not checked right now, they will cause extensive damage to paddy seedlings.

The rat poison should be applied again when the paddy was developing panicles. Reliance Foundation representatives explained the farmers about the comprehensive nutrition management methods.

Agriculture officer Ch Satyanarayana spoke on comprehensive micro nutrients. Reliance Foundation project manager Varahalu, agriculture extension officer Prashanthi, farmer Mummidi Nagamaheswara Rao and others took part in the programme.
