VMC preparing tenders to award works

Vijayawada: The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) will allot the third phase of Krishna Pushkaralu works to the contractors very soon. The VMC is preparing to call tenders to award the works. In the first two phases, the VMC awarded works worth Rs 105 crore and Rs 40 crore respectively and it will allot works worth Rs 40 crore in the third phase.

Attention will be paid on the temporary arrangements to be made at the Pushkara Nagars and VMC schools in the third phase of works. Arrangements of temporary toilets, waterproof tents, drinking water supply, sanitation works etc will be completed in the last phase.

Besides, amenities will also be provided at the VMC schools and VMC community halls, VMC stadiums for the staff attending the Krishna Pushkaralu special duty. The VMC is working in co-ordination with the revenue, irrigation, R&B, Panchayat Raj, endowments, police and other departments to provide facilities to the staff as well as pilgrims.

Thousands of employees working in various Government departments will attend the Krishna Pushkaralu special duty in and around Vijayawada in August. The VMC will make arrangements for their stay in the city.

Lifting of garbage and maintaining hygiene is the biggest work to be taken up by the VMC during the Krishna Pushkaralu. The VMC is engaging private contractors to lift the garbage and shift it to the outskirts of the city. A large number of contract sanitation workers will also be engaged for the sanitation duty.

A senior officer supervising the tender works said the civic body would begin the tender process very soon to allot the works.

In the first phase, the VMC has taken up works worth Rs 105 crore related to development of roads, side drains, pavements and modernisation of Tummalapalli Kalakshetram auditorium in the city. The works are going at brisk pace for the last three months and likely to be completed by the end of next month. Mayor Koneru Sridhar and Municipal Commissioner G Veerapandian are inspecting these development works regularly.

Sambamurthy Road, Visalandhra Road, BRTS road, Ganapati Rao road, BRP road, IGMC stadium Road, Five number road in Suryarao Pet, C K Reddy Road and other roads in Bhavanipuram and HB Colony were developed by the VMC to mark Krishna Pushkaralu. Submit estimates, officials told Sub-Collector G Srujana on Saturday instructed the in-charges of Pushkar Nagars to submit the estimates of the works to be taken up during the Krishna Pushkaralu.

She conducted a review meeting with the in-charges of Pushkar Nagars at the Sub-Collector’s meeting hall and reviewed the progress of works.

She said rainproof tents would be erected at Pushkar Nagars. She asked the officials to submit the details of temporary health camps, parking places and other details in two days and complete all arrangements before August 8. District revenue officer Ch Ragaiah, district panchayat officer V Krishna Kumari and others were present in the meeting.
