Vijayawada: Minister for Water Resources Devineni Umamaheswara Rao and MP Kesineni Srinivas inspected progress of Pushkar Ghat works here on Saturday. It may be noted that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu expressed anger at contractors over tardy progress of Pushkar Ghat works during his recent visit to the ghats.

Minister Umamaheswara Rao inspected the ghat works at the confluence of Krishna and Godavari rivers at Ferry village and directed the officials to speed up the works.

Meanwhile, MP Kesineni Srinivas inspected the Pushkar Ghat works right from Sitammavaripadalu to Ferry near Ibrahimpatnam village covering Durga Ghat, Punnami Ghat, Gollapudi Ghat. MLC Buddha Venkanna and Collector Babu A accompanied him. The MP inspected the progress of Pushkar works at field level by walking on the slushy surface on the river bund at several places.

At first, the MP inspected the Saneeswara Temple near Padmavati Ghat which is being removed for development works and promised the temple committee members that the temple would be developed.

He inspected the Pushkar Ghat works taken up by Soma company and gave suggestions. He said that the works were going on for 20 hours a day to complete the works as per schedule. He said four-lane road would be developed along the ghats for the convenience of devotees.

The MP said that the development works including Durga flyover, widening of national highways, city beautification and Outer Ring Road were being taken up at a cost of Rs 4000 crore. He said Kanaka Durga Temple would be developed on par with Tirumala Tirupati Devestanams.

Collector Babu A said Pushkar Ghats would be developed on international standards as part of river front development programe.
Municipal Commissioner G Veera Pandian, Kanaka Durga Temple Executive Officer Chandrasekhar Azad and others accompanied the MP.

Meanwhile, Congress leaders including former MLA Malladi Vishnu, N Narasimha Rao and others also inspected the ghat works. They demanded maintenance of quality in Pushkar Ghat works. They alleged that Pushkar Ghat works lacked quality.
