The Krishna district administration is facing a big task of removing the debris from the Krishnaveni and Padmavati bathing ghats downstream of Prakasam barrage. Hundreds tons of cement blocks, concrete slabs and boulders piled up at the bathing ghats downstream of Prakasam barrage where the devotees take bath during the Krishna Pushkaralu.

​Vijayawada: The Krishna district administration is facing a big task of removing the debris from the Krishnaveni and Padmavati bathing ghats downstream of Prakasam barrage. Hundreds tons of cement blocks, concrete slabs and boulders piled up at the bathing ghats downstream of Prakasam barrage where the devotees take bath during the Krishna Pushkaralu.

Due to the apron repairing works taken up by irrigation department, huge debris of concrete slabs and wastage piled up downstream of the Prakasam barrage. These cement blocks are spoiling the beauty of the river.

As part of the beautification work of the Prakasam barrage, the SPDCL has removed huge power lines near the apron and trying to remove the debris. The SPDCL has almost completed the debris removal works.

Interestingly, more debris is piling up at the bathing ghats due to construction of leading channel and steps. The officials may start the debris removal work after completion of the construction works of bathing ghats and leading channel. Irrigation officials are desperately trying to complete these works as early as possible.

The Government is giving top priority for the beautification of canals and Krishna riverfront in the city. Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu is insisting on the development of riverfront project upstream of Prakasam barrage to promote tourism. In this background, development of bathing ghats is the top priority for the State government.

Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu personally inspecting the progress of bathing ghats works and giving instructions to the officials to complete the works by the end of July. But, the removal of the debris will not be possible in the rains.

Trucks may be struck in the mud disrupting the movement of vehicles. In this background, questions are being raised about the removal of debris from the bathing ghats. Unless the construction works are completed, the debris removal may not be possible.

If there is unexpected heavy rainfall, the water will be released from Prakasam barrage. In this juncture also, the removal of debris from downstream of barrage will not be possible.
