Visakhapatnam: The BJP, TDP leaders paid floral tributes to former Deputy Prime Minister Babu Jagjivan Ram on his death anniversary on Wednesday by garlanding his statue on the R K Beach here on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, BJP MP and State president K Hari Babu said that Jagjivan Ram Ram though hailed from a Dalit community rose to higher positions with commitment.

He had left the Congress party and floated a new outfit ‘Congress for Democracy’ as he had opposed the imposition of Emergency, he informed. With the inspiration of such a great leader, both the Central and State governments were implementing various welfare schemes for the welfare of the poor, he added.

Party city president M Nagendra paying homage to the great Dalit leader said that Jagjivan Ram had handled many portfolios at the Centre, including Defence and Agriculture. Every political leader must imbibe great virtues of such a leader, he added. Party leaders T Subbirami Reddy, P V N Madhav, S V S Prakash Reddy, U Appalakonda, V Dakshina Murty, Prem Kumari, Ravi Kumar, S Satyanarayana, Rambabu, Albert and Varalakshmi were also present.
