Addressing party workers here on Thursday, the AP Congress affairs in-charge wondered whether it was really possible for the former chief minister to execute the welfare activities without the active support of the then Congress led UPA government.   

Visakhapatnam: Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh refuted the argument of YSRCP that it was Y S Rajashekar Reddy, during his tenure as chief minister between 2004 and 2009, who had actually conceived and rolled out several welfare schemes.

Addressing party workers here on Thursday, the AP Congress affairs in-charge wondered whether it was really possible for the former chief minister to execute the welfare activities without the active support of the then Congress led UPA government.

While asking people to judge the performance of the TDP, BJP government in the last two years against the Congress rule between 2004 and 2014, he listed out the major welfare schemes of the then Congress government both at the State and Centre.

The Congress government had given free power to power; started self help groups; provided fee reimbursement for poor students; pensions for widows, old and disabled and several such schemes. These were possible because of the support of Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh to YSR,” he said.
