Visakhapatnam: Collector N Yuvaraj reviewed the arrangements for ‘Giri Pradakshina’ here on Tuesday with the officials, which will be held under the aegis of Simhachalam Devasthanam on July 19, in which thousands of men, women, youth and children would participate.

The Collector informed that the mega event will start with Suprabhatam in the early hours of July 19 at 2 am to be followed by special pujas from 2.30 am to 4 am.

Stating that the devotees would walk 32 kms of distance during Giri Pradakshina, he asked the officials to make necessary arrangements like drinking water, toilets and rest shelters along the route from where the devotees would walk.

The municipal officials informed that they will set up 27 rest shelters and 181 temporary toilets while the city police officials said that security arrangements will be made along the route to control petty thefts and stampede. Parking lots should be identified at all important areas and the traffic should be regulated during the event.

The Collector directed the medical and health officials to keep 108 emergency ambulance services ready and also to organise medical camps to treat the needy and the RTC authorities were asked to ply free buses from the night of July 18 itself.

The Excise and Prohibition officials were asked to see that all liquor shops in Simhachalam and Adavivaram will remain closed on July 18 and 19 and the fire wing to keep two fire tenders atop Simhachalam hill and also at all important areas.

Pointing out that there was a criticism about the sanitation drive last year, Yuvaraj particularly directed the municipal zonal officers to step up the cleaniness drive along the route. Used water, butter milk packets and other food packets thrown on the route should be cleaned from time to time, he suggested.

Expecting a high turnout at Appughar beach point where devotees could take a holy bath, the Collector asked the officials to make necessary lighting arrangements and to deploy professional divers to meet any eventuality.

Commissioner of Police T Yoganand, Deputy Commissioner of Police Naveen Gulati, Simhachalam Devasthanam executive officer K Ramachandramohan, chief priest G Srinivasacharyulu and officials of RTC, GVMC and fire department attended the meeting.
