​Amaravati: The Irrigation Department is constructing ten Maha Ghats at Amaravati, Dharanikota, PPenumudi, Satrasala,ondugala, Tangeda, Tallayapalem, Daida, Seethanagaram for the convenience of pilgrims visiting Guntur district during the grand Krishna Pushkaralu.

Officials are making arrangements on a war footing as at least 5,000 to 7,000 pilgrims are expected to take holy dip at Amaravati and Dharanikota, at same time.

At Penumudi, about 3,000 pilgrims are likely to take a holy bath. Similarly, 2,000 to 3,000 pilgrims may take a holy dip at a time in the Pushkaralu at Satrasala, Pondugala, Daida and Tangeda ghats.

Irrigation Minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao instructed the concerned officials to complete the construction of ghats by July 25. The Irrigation Department appointed deputy executive engineer as in-charge to monitor the progress of the works.

The officials are constructing 1.3 km - long model ghat at Amaravati from Dhyana Buddha Project to Amareswara Swamy temple at a cost of Rs 16 crore.

So far 50 per cent of the construction has been completed. Remaining work is expected to be completed by July 25.Similarly, the Irrigation Department is constructing 500 meters long ghat at Penumudi.

It is estimated that every day 75,000 devotees will take a holy dip in this ghat. The department is also constructing Krishnaveni Pushkara ghat at V P South, Desalamma temple at a cost of Rs 3 crore. Ghats are being constructed at Mallikarjuna Swamy temple in Satrasala and Gottimukkala under Gurajala mandal.

District Collector Kantilal Dande said, "I have instructed the engineering officials to complete the ghats by July 25." He also directed the panchayats, R&B and SPDCL to provide necessary facilities at the ghats.The State police are making arrangements to set up parking places for vehicles and to install CCTV at ghats for better surveillance.
