Hyderabad: The TDP National General Secretary N Lokesh is likely to shift his base to New Delhi soon. If party source are to be believed, Lokesh will be shifting to Delhi after August 15.
According to party sources, Party National President N Chandrababu Naidu is said to be of the opinion that though there are two Ministers in the Union Cabinet, things are not moving as fast as they should and if Lokesh shifts to Delhi he would be able to coordinate with the Union Ministers and see that things would move faster.
The TDP Supremo, acting as a parent rather than party president, is said to have embarked on an exercise to keep Lokesh in Delhi for a period of three years in view of the future of the party as well as Lokesh. Efforts are on to make Lokesh spend three days in a week in Delhi.
At one stage, Naidu was said to have thought of inducting Lokesh into the State Cabinet. However, he is said to have felt that the situation was not conducive for such a development for the time being.
A decade ago, the TDP called shots in Delhi. Now the situation begs to differ. Though it has two Ministers in Delhi – Ashok Gajapathi Raju and Sujana Chowdary – the party was not able to fully capitalise on their services.
Appointment of Kambhampati Rammohana Rao at Delhi as special representative did not improve things. In such a scenario, Naidu was understood to have been toying with the idea of deputing Lokesh, sources said.
Anticipating that Lokesh’s presence in Delhi would benefit the TDP electorally, laying emphasis on maintaining cordial relations at the national level, Chandrababu was giving a serious thought to it, the sources said. Meanwhile, a bungalow is being readied in Delhi for Lokesh to stay, it is learnt.
