In his place, Dr. Viswanathan, Chancellor of VIT along with Khadambari S Viswanathan, Asst Vice- President , VIT inaugurated the  academic block.  Addressing the gathering, Dr Vishwanthan said  that setting up such institutes at other places had become a difficult due to technical problems like obtaining license, permits and other related issues from various departments. 

Vellore: The VIT Fashion Institute of Technology ( VFIT ) was inaugurated, here on Saturday. Even though Union Minister of State for Finance Santosh Kumar Gangawar, was supposed to launch the institute but he couldn’t make it due some pressing commitments.

In his place, Dr. Viswanathan, Chancellor of VIT along with Khadambari S Viswanathan, Asst Vice- President , VIT inaugurated the academic block. Addressing the gathering, Dr Vishwanthan said that setting up such institutes at other places had become a difficult due to technical problems like obtaining license, permits and other related issues from various departments.

Appreciating the speed with which the Government of Andhra Pradesh had given all clearances in shortest possible time and allocated land, Dr Vishwanathan said that AP should be a role model for other States with regard to speedy grant of permissions.

He heaped praise on Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for allocating 200 acres of land for setting up VIT at Amaravati which would commence by 2017 with a formal strength of 5,000 students and claimed that it was rare opportunity to find Chief Ministers who are so easily accessible.

Dr Vishwanathan said the demand for fashion technology has been growing at a rapid pace and was attracting more and more girl students. The training imparted at these institutes, he said would give impetus for promoting textile industry in the country which would be the allied activity in fashion designing .
