Visakhapatnam: In probably the first case of same sex marriage in the city, two women-one 18-year-old and the other 32, ran away from their homes and got married in Tirupati recently. Both returned home on Saturday. According to reports Teja (32) of Yatapalem village under Gajuwaka police limits lured Varalakshmi (18) of the same area and took her to Tirupati where they got married. Soon after their arrival, when the parents of Varalakshmi came to know about their marriage, attacked Teja, along with other family members, and beat her up.
Later, they handed over her to Gajuwaka police. “If both are majors there is no issue. And if Varalakshmi is proved to be a minor, a case will be registered against Teja,’’ said circle inspector of Gajwaka Immaneul Raj. The CI told reporters that Teja has been insisting that Varalakshmi is a major and accompanied her to Tirupati on her own. The police will verify the age of Varalakshmi after which further investigation would be taken up, he added.
