Visakhapatnam: Stern action would be initiated against those persons, who grab the government lands, warned HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao.

Reacting to the recent demolition of houses of fishermen in Ch Timmapuram and Yendada areas in his Assembly segment, the Minister convened a meeting with Collector N Yuvaraj, Joint Collector J Nivas, RDO Venkateswarlu and tahsildars of Bhimili and Anandapuram here on Saturday.

“The State government has issued the GO No 296 to regularise the houses of the poor and do not demolish the houses of those living there for years”, the Minister told the officials, who demolished the houses, which were built in the government lands.

The victims, who met the Minister, told him that the officials demolished their houses even after they were paying power bills and house taxes for the past many years.

Reacting to their complaint, the Minister suggested to the officials to exempt those living there for years with proper proof and to regularise such houses as per the GO No 296.

He later reviewed the construction of houses by the Department of Tourism in Yendada.

Meanwhile, the CPI Nagara Samithi demanded the government to initiate action against the erring revenue officials and police, who dismantled the houses of the poor fishermen in Chepala Timmapuram and Yendada villages of Bhimili mandal, without giving prior information.
