Amaravati: A construction worker was killed and 20 other workers were injured when the tractor in which they were going for construction work overturned at Velagapudi on Monday morning.
The injured have been shifted to the Guntur General Hospital (GGH) for treatment.
According to police, about 30 construction workers were going in the tractor from Guntur to Velagapudi for work. However, when the tractor crossed Kanteru, its trailer got de-linked and immediately turned turtle.
A worker Gurram Venkateswara Rao sustained severe injuries and died on the spot. Twenty others workers were also injured and they were shifted to the hospital for treatment.
Venkateswara Rao hailed from Yergagondapalem in Prakasam district. The police shifted his body to the GGH for post-mortem. Tadikonda police registered the case and took up investigation.
Meanwhile, CPM workers staged a dharna at the GGH demanding compensation to the kin of the deceased and the injured in the accident.
They requested the district administration extend a helping hand to the kin of the deceased.
As the activists protested on the road near GGH, vehicles were stranded on both sides of the road. Police swung into action and brought the situation under control.
