Andhra Pradesh Brahmin Welfare Corporation (BWC) chairman IYR Krishna Rao exhorted the Brahmin community to plunge into politics to strive for the development of the community.
Tirupati: Andhra Pradesh Brahmin Welfare Corporation (BWC) chairman IYR Krishna Rao exhorted the Brahmin community to plunge into politics to strive for the development of the community.
Addressing a meeting of Brahmins from Chittoor district here on Sunday, Rao explained how Brahmins, who dominated the independence struggle with their leadership quality and sacrificing nature, were pushed to background as they were unable to withstand the competition from other communities in politics.
The abolition of ‘Inam’ and ‘Srothriyam’ which deprived the Brahmins of firm land holdings dealt the death blow, he said and added that only a few Brahmins with foresight wer able to overcome the difficult situation with education, leaving the majority in the lurch.
Against this background, thanks to the initiative of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, BWCL was set up to give the much needed push to Brahmins, he recalled.
Rao went one step ahead by calling upon the Brahmins to foray into politics and join hands with the likeminded Vysya community to become a force to reckon with in politics.
“Identify the areas where the two communities are predominant to contest elections jointly to win at least 20 MLA seats with strategic alliance with others which will help to have a quality discussion in the legislature and usher in a prosperous era for the community.
I have already held discussions with the leaders of Vysya community, who are rearing to go, but Brahmins are dillydallying,'' he said.
Rao also explained about the BWCL schemes for the development of the members of the community.
He said two endowment schemes `Akshaya Dharmanidhi' and ‘Srikrishna Sudhama Dharmanidhi' were launched to mobilise donations from the people.
This was to run the welfare schemes without the funding from the government after 10-15 years and help the Brahmins stand on their own feet.
Rao wanted the rich in the community to donate liberally to the two corpus funds to provide succour to needy in the community.
Interestingly, Rao informed that the response from the Brahmin members to the two endowment schemes was nil, while first donation of Rs 5 lakh was announced for ‘Srikrishna Sudhama’ by a non-Brahmin on Sunday in Tirupati.
The donor was TDP Vaidhya Vibhagam district convener R Sudharani, he said. This followed many on the dias, including TDP district president and MLC G Sriniasulu, Dr Nirmala announcing Rs 1 lakh each to ‘Akshyanidhi.’
Later, Krishana Rao convened a meeting with the leaders of various Arya-Vysya Associations in the district, portending a new alignment in the State to safeguard the interests of Brahmins and Vysyas, adding more zest to the caste politics.
