Kuchipudi Dancer, Vinjamuri Sujatha showcased the greatness of the river Krishna with her group in the dance form organised by Sangamam Foundation along with Kuchipudi Art Academy of Dance, the USA at Ravindra Bharathi, Hyderabad on Tuesday.
Kuchipudi Dancer, Vinjamuri Sujatha showcased the greatness of the river Krishna with her group in the dance form organised by Sangamam Foundation along with Kuchipudi Art Academy of Dance, the USA at Ravindra Bharathi, Hyderabad on Tuesday. The 11 members of the group depicted the River Krishna’s birth, travel and key moments with great composition.
The dance started with a video showcasing the birth of various rivers like Nile, Sindhu, Ganga, Godavari and Krishna. Krishna River is also called Krishnaveni and it is the fourth biggest river in India and second in south India. It is a major source of irrigation for Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The river is almost 1,400 kilometres long.
The one-hour dance recital informs about the various kingdoms established around Krishna River like Vijayanagara, Pallava, Chola and among others. The dance also showcased the achievements of great kings, poets and artistes who lived on the coast of Krishna. The dance depicted the great moments in history like the death of Hiranyakashipu by Narasimha Swami; Patalganga going to Lord Shiva, etc.
Extolling the importance of the arts Dr T Subbarami Reddy, MP, Rajya Sabha who was the chief guest of the programme said: “Sujatha Vinjamuri’s team narrated the history of river Krishna very well through the dance with a new concept. Arts are very important. Every human must know the importance of art. Today everything is related to arts. We have to show the great culture of Telugu to the world.”
Sujatha Vinjamuri, who mesmerised the audience along with her team said: “We should not forget our roots. We should tell the greatness of the Kuchipudi dance to the upcoming generations. Government’s has to include lessons on Kuchipudi Dance in schools. I started the academy in the US to help the people who have keen interest to learn Kuchipudi."
Andhra Pradesh State Women’s Commission Chairperson, Nannapaneni Rajakumari; writer and politician Yarlagadda Laxmi Prasad and Kuchipudi dancer Padmaja Reddy graced the event.
