Visakhapatnam: The awareness among devotees to use clay idols for the festival is on the rise this year with majority of voluntary organisations, educational institutions and the Pollution Control Board distributing clay idols of Lord Vinayaka for the festival to be celebrated on Monday.

Collector Praveen Kumar has already appealed to the public to use clay idols and to protect the environment while the Pollution Control Board officials distributed clay idols free of cost at Rythu Bazars for two days and also on the Zilla Praja Parishad office premises where the HRD Minister launched the programme.
Many educational institutions also distributed clay idols to create awareness among children. Vizag Journalists’ Forum as part of its society service, distributed clay idols on Saturday to its members and also to the public at Seetammadhara inviting former Andhra University Vice-Chancellor Prof G S N Raju, Additional Joint Collector D V Reddy and others.
Members of Naveen Welfare Society created awareness on using clay idols among public at the RTC Complex here on Sunday holding placards. Later, society secretary Sainanda Kishore distributed about 300 clay idols to the public.
Local First Play School management also trained its little children in making clay idols by educating them about protection of environment. Later, school principal Pravallika, director Ramana Murty, guests Prasadula Sreenu, Chikka Satyanarayana and Vasu distributed the idols to the kids.
