Vijayawada: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s intervention worked well for the ruling party to avoid elections in the Krishna Milk Union. Three nominations were withdrawn out of six, filed for the three posts of directors, following the Chief Minister’s directive. This led to the unanimous election of the three directors, including that of chairman Mandava Janaki Ramaiah, ending week-long suspense in the district. However, the milk union is likely to see a new chairman, with Janaki Ramaiah stepping down as directed by the Chief Minister.

The election officer L Gurunadham gave declaration forms to the three directors.

Speaking on the occasion Anjaneyulu said that on direction of district in-charge Minister P Pulla Rao and Water Resources Minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao three director posts were elected unanimously. However, the chairman candidate would be selected by the Chief Minister after the Assembly session; he said and added that union general body meeting would be held on September 27 at dairy premises.

Meanwhile, Ministers Pulla Rao and Uma Maheswara Rao and TDP district president Bachula Arjunudu gave assurance that new body would hold enquiry into the misappropriation of funds during the reign of Janaki Ramaiah.

According to the sources, the Ministers received several complaints from the members against chairman Janaki Ramaiah alleging misappropriation of funds. The three rebel candidates who have withdrawn their nominations on Wednesday demanded that the government for through enquiry into the utilisation of funds by the chairman.

However, the race for the new chairman post picked up the speed with the intervention of the Chief Minister. While incumbent Janaki Ramaiah is firm on getting one more term, two others, Anjaneyulu and Balavardhana Rao are lobbying for their candidature. Interestingly, Balavardhana Rao was promised the chairman post before the 2014 elections but was not given the chance.

This time he is expecting the post and is using his sources to take up his case with the Chief Minister. However, Anjaneyulu, a strong supporter of Minister Uma Maheswara Rao, is staking claim for the post this time. It is said that the Ministers Pulla Rao and Uma Maheswara Rao are in favour of his candidature.
