Rajamahendravaram: Funds worth Rs 5 crore are being released from the ST sub-plan to meet the medical requirements in the merged mandals of East Godavari district, Minister for Tribal Welfare Ravela Kishore Babu said here on Wednesday. He added that ambulances, medical kits and other facilities would be provided to merged mandals.

He conducted a review meeting on the health conditions prevailing in the Agency area in Rajamahendravaram on Wednesday. Speaking with officials, Ravela Kishore Babu said that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu directed him and Health Minister Kamineni Srinivasa Rao to monitor the situation in the Agency area.

With the objective of wiping out malaria from the Agency area, he said that 432 medical camps have been conducted so far and suggested the officials to be careful regarding the spread of the disease. Recalling that mosquito nets have been distributed in the Agency area, he said that 3.5 lakh medicated nets were ordered and added that the shipment would be arriving shortly from Vietnam and Cambodia.

Admitting that there is a dearth of doctors in the Agency area, he made it clear that there was no scarcity of medicines in the Agency area.

He maintained that the government has been trying hard to appoint specialist doctors in the Agency area through high salaries.

With regard to the unidentified leg-swelling cases reported in the merged mandal of V R Puram, he said that blood samples have been set to Vizag.

He said that mosquito repellents were sprayed in 935 villages for 45 days and directed the officials to spread awareness among tribals to spray repellents in all rooms to get complete protection from the disease. He also mentioned that two nephrologists were brought from Vizag to monitor the situation.

District Collector H Arun Kumar, Project Officer, ITDA, K V N Chakradhar Babu and other officials were present on the occasion.
