Cops to act against drunk driving
The Vijayawada city police conducted a special drive against drunk driving on Tuesday. As many as 43 persons were taken into custody.
Vijayawada: The Vijayawada city police conducted a special drive against drunk driving on Tuesday. As many as 43 persons were taken into custody.
Addressing a media conference here on Wednesday, the Commissioner of Police, Gautam Sawang said that vehicles of the 43 custodians had been seized and would be presented in the court. In August, as many as 1,726 persons were taken into custody for drunk driving.
Among them around 201 persons got imprisonment for three days and 1,487 persons paid a fine of Rs 21 lakh. In the year 2015, a total number of 3,618 cases were registered for drunk driving. The police officials appealed to vehicle riders of the city to avoid drunk driving as it was the major cause for the road accidents.
The officials also stated that the duration of imprisonment would also be increased in future.
