Vizianagaram: The continuous rains have disturbed the normal life in North Andhra and even the district. Many residential areas, colonies and villages are disconnected with the other areas and the buildings, thatched houses are being collapsed owing to the downpour. Even the Collector’s office, which can be said to be heart of district administration, also badly affected with the rains . The ceiling is leaking heavily. Now, the 30-year-old building lost its strength and many more offices here were facing the same problem.

The building was inaugurated by the former chief minister NT Rama Rao during 1984. On Monday, the District Collector, Vivek Yadav and Joint Collector Srikesh Balaji came to know that the auditorium in Collector’s office, where the regular meetings, reviews and interactions with hundreds of people are being held, is heavily leaking. Due to the continuous rains for the past few days, the ceiling of the auditorium is leaked and the fragments, cement particles from the ceiling also frequently falling down. Due to the pathetic condition, the district officers are unable to sit there to receive the applications from public, who came there to submit their grievances.

But due to the leakage of ceiling, the officers, including Vivek Yadav and Srikesh also forced to come out of the auditorium to conduct the Prajavani programme at corridor on Monday. With this situation the public need to wait in the rain as the portico and corridors were occupied by the officers. Later, the Collector Vivek Yadav said that the renovation and repair works were in progress and would be completed soon. “We will solve the problem and will bring the situation under control,” He said.

District Revenue Officer Jitendra informed that the renovation and repair works were being undertaken with an expenditure of Rs 2 crore and those would be completed by January. After completion of works, everything will be stabilised,” he said.
