Tapeswaram (East Godavari): The 29,465 Kg ‘Maha laddu’ made by Suruchi Foods of Tapeswaram in East Godavari has found a place in the Guinness Book of World Records. Proprietor of Suruchi Foods, Polisetty Malli Babu said that officials of the Guinness Book of World Records had confirmed this through e-mail and had also uploaded the information on their official site. The laddu had been presented to Lord Ganesh at Gajuwaka in Visakhapatnam on the eve of Vinayaka Chavithi.

Speaking to the media at Tapeswaram on Thursday, Malli Babu said that the earlier record was held by the Arasuri Ambaji Mata Devastan Trust in Gujarat which had created a 11,115 Kg laddu. He said that all quality and technical parameters were followed in making the laddu and added that no artificial colours or preservatives had been used in its preparation.

He mentioned that Suruchi Foods made the laddu only with the intention of entering the Guinness Book and stated they would not make any more laddus for the sake of records. However, he expressed his willingness to give suggestions and technical support to anyone interested in breaking his record.

Malli Babu said that the Maha laddu was made at a cost of Rs 35 lakh and 19 workers had assisted him in making the laddu.12,000 Kg of sugar, 8,000 Kg of Bengal gram, 7,000 Kg of ghee, 1,500 Kg of refined oil, 400 Kg of cashew nuts, 150 Kg elachi and 15 Kg of dry camphor were used for the laddu, he said.

On a different note, Malli Babu said that Suruchi Foods would not be presenting a laddu to Khairatabad Ganesh anymore as the Committee there had breached its contract with him by placing the laddu at the feet of Lord Ganesh instead of putting it in his hands as originally agreed upon.

He said he was deeply pained by this act of the Committee. He thanked his family and friends who had supported him I making the laddu and said that he had distributed the laddu to six lakh people in India and overseas in the last 21 days.
