Vijayawada: TDP MP JC Diwakar Reddy reportedly created a scene at the Gannavaram airport on Friday, seeking to delay the departure of his Air India flight. When the airport authorities expressed helplessness, Reddy was alleged to have barged into the Air India office and damaged furniture in rage. The attempts by the police to calm him down went in vain.

Diwakar Reddy, hailing from Tadipatri in Anantapur district, came to Amaravati to attend official ceremony relating to foundation-laying of administrative core city. He was scheduled to reach the airport and receive check-in pass at least 45 minutes before the departure of his Air India flight scheduled at 5.45pm.

However, he reached the airport just 15 minutes before the flight’s take-off, the boarding was closed by that time and the AI authorities announced that his ticket was cancelled. According to eye-witness accounts, the ruling party MP was demanding to delay the departure for some time for his sake.

Incidentally, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu who happened to come to the airport at that time to see off the Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley reportedly sat in the lounge when the MP was allegedly indulging in unruly scenes. The CM was said to have deputed Vijayawada MP Kesineni Srinivas (Nani) to pacify Diwakar Reddy.

Reddy finally relented when Nani made an alternative arrangement for his travel by a Spice Jet flight. The spice jet flight was behind its scheduled by two hours and Diwakar Reddy was said to have sat in the lounges in a sulking mood till 9 pm.

The East Zone Assistant Commissioner of Police Rajasekhar told The Hans India that the police did not register any case against the MP as they have not received a complaint from the AI officials.
