The depression over southeast Bay of Bengal remained practically stationary during the last six hours and lay centred over southeast Bay of Bengal about 1180 km from Visakhapatnam, 1210 km southsoutheast of Gopalpur in Odisha, 260km northwest of Car Nicobar and 310km southsouthwest of  Port Blair.  

Visakhapatnam: The depression over southeast Bay of Bengal remained practically stationary during the last six hours and lay centred over southeast Bay of Bengal about 1180 km from Visakhapatnam, 1210 km southsoutheast of Gopalpur in Odisha, 260km northwest of Car Nicobar and 310km southsouthwest of Port Blair.

The system is very likely to move northwestwards during next 72 hours. It is very likely to intensify into a deep depression during the next 24 hours.

Conditions are favourable of the system further developing into a cyclonic storm `Vardha’ in the subsequent 24 hours.

The Cyclone Warning Centre here advised the fishermen not to venture into the sea until further advice.

The CWC also suggested hoisting of distant cautionary signal No 1 at Visakhapatnam, Machilipatnam, Krishnapatnam and Nizamapatnam ports.

Information was also passed on to Kalingapatnam, Bhimili and Vadarevu ports to take precautionary measures.

The District Collector held a meeting with the officials here on Wednesday and suggested for opening of a control room.

He asked the Revenue, Panchayat Raj and Irrigation department officials to remain in the headquarters and prepare for contingency measures.
