New Delhi: YSRCP president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, here on Thursday sought President Pranab Mukherjee’s, intervention in getting the four YSRCP MLAs inducted as ministers in the AP Cabinet sacked from the posts immediately as their induction was unconstitutional.

Highlights:

  • Complains against Governor for swearing-in four defected YSRC MLAs against the norms of the Constitution
  • Accuses the TDP government of luring Opposition legislators offering huge amounts of bribes
  • To stay in capital for some more days and take the matter to the notice of all political parties to mount pressure on the BJP, ally of TDP

Jagan met the President along with his party leaders on Thursday to protest the induction of the defected MLAs into the Cabinet and challenged the action of the Governor in mechanically accepting the advice of the Chief Minister in administering the Oath of Office and Secrecy to the four legislators.

He said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had no scruples and much less respect for the Constitution and democratic spirit. Despite enjoying the full majority with 62 per cent of the members of the Assembly, he was openly indulging in the unethical and unconstitutional practice of masterminding defections from the main and the only Opposition party in the hope of creating an Opposition-free state, he said.

Stating that 21 of his MLAs elected on YSRCP had been lured into the TDP by offer of Cabinet berths, he explained to the President that it was an open secret that a large amount of money had also changed hands in this regard. He said petitions seeking disqualification of the defected members had been ignored by the Speaker.

Later, speaking to the media, Jagan said he would stay put in the capital for a couple of days and meet the leaders of all political parties who could prevail upon the BJP leadership to see the gross violation of the Constitution in AP by its ally the TDP.
