Amaravati: YSRCP president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy’s meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi stirred up a hornet’s nest in state politics with TDP, BJP and YSRCP involving in heated political exchanges.

Following the seemingly sudden meeting of Jagan with the PM, ruling party leaders, including ministers K Atchannaidu, Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao, Sujaya Krishna Ranga Rao launched a tirade against him. They accused him of trying to wriggle out of CBI cases by cosying up with the Centre. Privately, some of them have been expressing opinion that the meeting also is sending wrong signals about the credibility of the Prime Minister too.

The announcement of YSR Congress that it would unconditionally support any candidate put by the BJP-led NDA for the post of president sparked a debate on future course of politics in the state.

In the meantime, BJP, a section of whose leaders, has not been happy with the ruling party, have chipped in the debate, defending Jagan’s meeting with Modi.

BJP legislature party leader Vishnukimar Raju and MLC Somu Veerraju objected to the criticism of the TDP leaders, saying that anyone can meet the Prime Minister. They questioned the veracity of allegations by the TDP leaders that Jagan discussed CBI cases against him with the PM.

Meanwhile, both the BJP and the TDP, partners in the ruling alliance in the state, are busy making arrangements for their party plenaries in the state.

TDP Desam will conduct its party plenary for three days in Visakapatnam from May 27. It is expected to prepare a roadmap for the next elections in the meeting besides discussing the likely strategy of the main Opposition party.

Similarly, BJP state unit will organise its state plenary for two days from July 15. Besides, the BJP will also conduct a meeting of booth-level in-charges in Vijayawada on May 25.

The party top leadership, including national president Amit Shah, will attend the meeting, according to party sources. BJP has plans to strengthen its own base even though its ally TDP is in a strong position at the grass-root level across the state. On the other hand, the YSRCP is also going to conduct its plenary on July 8 and 9, in Vijayawada for the first time.

The whole developments among the major political parties are raising the heat in state politics. A senior political leader of BJP said that the state politics would witness more changes after the Presidential election.
