  • Contractor Rajeshwar Reddy says he carried out compound wall demolition on the instructions of the municipal commissioner
  • We will file contempt of court case against the contractor in the HC of Hyderabad, says KVR Degree College in-charge principal

Last year, some of the drunkards entered into the college hostel premises had created nuisance frightening the inmates. Despite several complaints lodged with the police as well as with the District Collector in this regard, no action has been taken against the contractor.

Recently, the district administration has taken up road widening works from Railway Station Road junction covering a stretch of one km and handed over the contract to one Rajeshwar Reddy. Although, the demolition has to be done equally on either side of the road, the contractor demolished the compound wall without touching the structures on the opposite side of the college. He also failed to bring it to the notice of the college management.

It may be recalled that the High Court has passed orders on June 6 in 2016 stating not to demolish the compound wall which is the only source of protection to the girl students in the hostel. Not paying any heed to the standing orders of the High Court, the municipal commissioner in his oral representation dated 3rd June 2017 has instructed the contractor Rajeshwar Reddy to carry out the demolition of the compound wall.

Accordingly, the contractor demolished the wall to a stretch of half a kilometre and this attitude was opposed by the college management, AIDWA and several student organizations. The in-charge principal of the KVR College, Veera Chari speaking to The Hans India said that despite High Court orders, the contractor has demolished the compound wall amid tight security without bringing it to the notice of the college management.

He said that they would approach the High Court of Hyderabad and file a contempt of court case against the contractor.
Speaking to the media here on Sunday, All India Democratic Women Association (AIDWA) state vice- president, P Nirmalamma condemned the attitude of the contractor as well as the government which was extending support to the contractor. She said that they would intensify their protest if the district administration failed to mend its ways.
