Unknown in Vizag till five years ago, it is now a Rs one-crore worth business during Ramzan

This delicacy is a high calorie dish loaded with protein coming in from the meat and fibre, and carbohydrates from various combinations of pulses and grains. The once-in-a –year dish is now found in every corner of the city. There was only one near Mecca Masjid near Jagadamba centre and now like all other fast food centres is spread over the city offering different flavours including vegetarian.

These centres do a business of Rs 1 crore in the season, said a Muslim community leader living in One Town area. The city has a population of two lakh Muslims and half of them live in the old city and adjacent areas.It is the students of professional colleges, universities who are flocking the Haleem centres.

They find it completely different from the other fast foods or continental dishes, said Mansoor Hyder, who deals in scrap business and supported his friend to open a Haleem centre.However, it is not cheaper anymore since the price of meat and ingredients have gone up
