Gorantla(Anantapur): Irrigation and district in-charge Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao has hailed Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu as a visionary, who had been striving very hard for the development of the truncated state and implementing multiple welfare schemes for the upliftment of the people.

Participating in a foundation laying ceremony in Gorantla mandal for construction of a bridge over Chitravathi river here on Friday, the Minister said that the government is working on a mission mode to complete the Handri Neeva project which would serve as a lifeline to the district and to Rayalaseema districts in general.

He said that the project will not only irrigate more than 3 lakh acres of agriculture lands but will also fill all irrigation and village tanks in the entire district. These village tanks would recharge the groundwater resources and boost the water table. The Krishna water brought to Jeedipalle and thence up to Gollapalle would drive out drought permanantly from the district.

Later, the Minister participated in demonstration of rain gun for extending protective irrigation to the farmers’ lands in Papireddipalle village in Gorantla mandal. Ministers Paritala Sunitha and K S Jawahar, Penukonda MLA Parthasarathy and District Collector Veerapandian participated.
