Srikakulam: TDP leaders of Srikakulam city are not happy with the inordinate delay in holding of municipal corporation elections for the last seven years.

The tenure of the elected body came to an end on September 2010 and since then, the municipality has been under special officers’ rule till now. The Srikakulam municipality was upgraded two years ago to that of a Municipal Corporation and a total of 50 divisions were identified and voters’ lists also prepared as category wise.

In this backdrop, TDP leaders of the city are expecting elections for the last one year but the party high command seems not to be interested in conducting elections for urban bodies across the state including Srikakulam. Even after a landslide winning at Kakinada and Nandyala, the party leadership is reportedly not interested in conducting elections for Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam and the temple town of Tirupati.

TDP leaders are expecting public support to their party in the wake of recent victories and also take advantage of the fact that it is the ruling party. But according to the party senior leaders, the party high command is having different opinion over Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam and Tirupati after considering local equations.

The TDP’s ally, the BJP also appointed division in-charges for all 50 divisions and conducted one spell campaign across the city. The main opposition party, the YSRCP has intensified its activities in the city to get public support and concentrated on pending issues in Srikakulam.
