Vijayawada: PCC chief N Raghuveera Reddy on Saturday urged the youth to fight against the TDP government which failed to keep up its election promises including filling up of vacant government jobs and sanctioning of dole to the unemployed.

He addressed a meeting held under the aegis of State Youth Congress and NSUI here in connection with the birth centenary celebrations of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Raghuveera said the TDP government has closed over 2,000 schools instead of opening new schools, as a result the poor students are not in a position to go to the corporate schools and are staying away from education.

He demanded that the government should open welfare hostels which were closed. He said due to delay in fee reimbursement the corporate colleges are exerting pressure on students. He flayed the Chief Minister for causing hardship to students.

He also criticised the Chief Minister for failing to secure Special Category Status (SCS) for Andhra Pradesh. He said the grant of SCS would encourage entrepreneurs to set up industries in the State.

He said the PCC will conduct an examination on the life history of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on November 5 in all the district centres across the State and give cash prizes to those who secure the top three places.

Former Union Minister Pallam Raju recalled how late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi developed the country and increased food grain production. The nationalization of banks also took place during her regime. Youth Congress national general secretary Abraham Roy Mani urged the youth to fight against anti-people policies of the ruling TDP and strengthen the party from the grass-root level. Former Union Minister J D Seelam, former MLA Mastan Vali, PCC general secretary P Suribabu and city Congress president Akula Srinivas were among those who participated in the meeting.
