Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government is working on new tourism policy to attract more investments into tourism sector and the policy will be out soon, according to Mukesh Kumar Meena, Secretary, Tourism & Culture Department, AP. “In 2015, we announced AP Tourism Policy 2015-20 for five years. Though there has been some progress in the last two years, we feel that more incentives are required in the areas of land and other incentives to attract more investments into the tourism sector. We are working on the changes now,” Meena told The Hans India on Saturday.

He was in the city to attend second ‘Regional Tourism Investors & Stakeholders’ Meet’ organised by AP Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation (AP Chambers) in association with the AP Tourism Department. AP Tourism Minister Bhuma Akhila Priya Reddy inaugurated the meeting. AP Champers planned five such interactive conferences to take inputs from stakeholders on the changes to be made to the AP Tourism Policy.

First meeting was organised in Visakhapatnam on October 27. Two meetings will be held in Kurnool and Tirupati on November 10 and 17 respectively before final conference takes place in Vijayawada on November 24. Asked when the new policy would be out, the Tourism Secretary said that the government would launch the policy after taking inputs from stakeholders and other states. “Through these five conferences, we are taking inputs from stakeholders. We will also study tourism policies of states like Goa, Gujarat, Rajasthan, which are doing very well in tourism. Most probably, we will finalise the policy in one or one and a half months,” he said.

In the last three years, the AP government signed 145 MoUs, entailing total investments of Rs 10,300 crore. Of them, projects worth Rs 4,000 crore were grounded so far. “Projects worth about Rs 3,000 crore have some land issues while the remaining projects worth Rs 7,000 crore will eventually be completed,” he said.On the new projects, he said that a company had come forward to organise Formula 3 car race in Anantapur district. “We allotted 150 acres for the project in which the company will invest Rs 149 crore. This race will be a part of global Formula 3 race,” he explained.
He also said that the State would soon get F1 H2 race, a formula 1 race on water. “This will be organised in Prakasam Barrage in Amaravati in October or November (every year),” he said, without giving any launch date.

Earlier speaking at the inaugural session, Tourism Minister Akhila Priya Reddy said the government was making concerted efforts to make Andhra Pradesh number one state in tourist arrivals. “We will transform all the 13 districts and new capital Amaravati into tourist hubs. So, this is right time for investors to take up tourism projects in AP,” she said. Over 200 delegates took part in the conference and made suggestions on the tourism policy. Some of them showed interest in investing in AP and discussed their proposals with the government officials.
