Pithapuram: The municipal council meeting here on Thursday witnessed noisy scenes following which the ruling and opposition members staged a walk-out. They vented their ire over non- implementation of resolutions adopted in the House. Right from beginning sparks flew at the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Karanam Chinna Rao.

The TDP and YSRCP members came down heavily on the officials. Consequently, the meeting had to be adjourned after discussing only two items on the agenda. A TDP member, Venum Suresh, threw mike out of disgust and staged a walk-out.

Venum Suresh said that though he had submitted a written requisition for emptying a septic tank of a public toilet, no action could be taken so far.
Another member Khandavilli Subba Rao complained of street lights not functioning in his ward.

Members Nama Dorababu, Bangaru Dwaraka, Duggada Vijayalakshmi, Bodapati Padma and Chodisetty Chanti highlighted problems in their wards. They complained of inaccessibility of officials and civic staff. Duggada Vijayalakshmi termed the civic staff as apathetic.

Bodapati Padma complained of development of a park, for which the foundation stone was laid two months ago, at a cost of Rs 30 lakh remained a non-starter even today. Another councilor Koruprolu Srinu wondered at works, commenced two years ago in his ward, could not be completed even now. Vice-Chairman Pilli Chinna pointed out that the maintenance of LED lights in the streets was at its worst.

Clarifying on the issue, Municipal Commissioner Rammohan told the meeting that the LED lights would be repaired. Another member Joga Radha sought to know from the House when the Stree Sakti Bhavan under construction in her ward would be ready. Earlier, Bodapati Padma staged a walk-out from the meeting stating that her ward lagged behind in terms of development.

The Municipal Commissioner clarified that there was a delay in getting the works executed in wards as the civic staff are busy with a survey related to revision of the voters’ list. On account of the revision, several development works did not progress beyond the foundation –stone-laying phase.
He termed it as unprecedented. Because of the GST issue, contractors are not coming forward to execute the works. He said that he is focusing on street lighting.
