Vijayawada: All set for the beginning of Bhavani Deeksha relinquishment at Durga temple on Indrakeeladri Hill here on Sunday. It is estimated six lakh devotees will visit the temple for the annual Bhavani Deeksha viramana (relinquishment) which will be held up to December 14. The district administration has made elaborate arrangements with Rs 9 crore for the convenience of pilgrims, who will come from different parts of the state.

On the last day nearly two lakh devotees are expected to attend Durga temple. Most important part of the event is Giri Pradakshina in which devotees will go around the temple. Police are keeping a special vigil on the eight km route that pass via Mallikarjuna Peta, Kotha Peta, Chitti Nagar and will go to Vidyadharapuram and finally reach the temple via Kummaripalem Junction.

Queue line arrangements have been completed similar to Dasara celebrations. Police personnel were deployed for the special duty on Canal Road, Durga temple, Arjuna Street and other parts of the Old City.

District Collector B Lakshmikantham, DCP Kanti Rana Tata, temple executive officer A Surya Kumari and other officials conducted review meetings and closely monitoring the arrangements for the annual event.

Special arrangements have been made with showers for bathing at Durga Ghat as thousands of devotees visit the temple from early morning.Fisheries and water resources department with the help of state fire services department will deploy expert swimmers to take part in rescue operations in case of disasters at the ghats.

About 2,000 volunteers have registered their names to do service from December 10 to 14. The officials said the rush of devotees would continue three more days up to December 17 as pilgrims from far away districts like Srikakulam and Tamil Nadu and Telangana will come for the relinquishment.

The endowments department particularly the Durga temple authorities are giving top priority for sanitation and appointed several staff to maintain hygiene in coordination with the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation. Mobile toilets will be used for the convenience of devotees. Interestingly, cloak room and chappal stand facility will be provided free of cost to the pilgrims. Irumudulu will be removed after offering special prayers. The devotees continue to visit the temple three more days in addition to the five day event.
