Amaravati: Union Water Resources Ministry informed Parliament of the progress of irrigation projects that were listed in the 11th Schedule of AP Reorganisation Act.
Responding to a question of Congress MP K V P Ramachandra Rao, the Ministry in a written reply in Rajya Sabha on Monday said Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS), Telugu Ganga, Galeru-Nagari Srujala Sravanthi (GNSS) and Veligonda were included in bifurcation Act. It also said the AP government had sent a report about the progress of the projects.
According to report of the AP government, the HNSS provides irrigation facilities to 6.025 lakh acres in Rayalaseema region. Around 82 per cent work has been completed so far and main canal work is almost completed. The work on the branch canals and distributor system is in progress.
Water was released up to Jeedipali reservoir in kharif season of 2015 and 2016 and water was supplied to Gollapalli reservoir. Total expenditure of the project is Rs 9,839 crores while the expenditure incurred during the last three-and-a-half years is Rs 3,321 crores.
Telugu Ganga project provides irrigation water to 5.75 lakh acres in Rayalaseema region and Nellore district and supplies 15 tmc ft drinking water to Chennai. The state government said 76 per cent work has been completed so far and 4,28,944 acres irrigation potential has been created. Total expenditure incurred so far is Rs 4,644 crores while expenditure incurred during the last three-and-a-half years is Rs 512 crores.
The GNSS, which is divided into two phases, provides water to 2.60 lakh acre ayacut in Kadapa, Chittoor and Nellore districts and drinking water to 5 lakh population. Gandikota reservoir has already been completed and water is stored in the reservoir up to 6 tmc ft. Water was supplied to Pulivendula branch canal in 2016- 17 and Gorukallu Balancing Reservoir was filled up to 7.65 tmc ft as a part of GNSS Phase-I work this year and 14.39 tmc ft water was supplied to Gandikota reservoir through GNSS system.
During 2017-18, 7.750 tmc ft water is stored in Gandikota reservoir and 3 tmc ft water is stored in Paidipalem reservoir. In phase-I, 88 per cent work was completed and 30 per cent work was completed in phase-II. Total expenditure is Rs 6,958 crores while expenditure incurred during the last three-and-a-half years was Rs 1,945 crores.
