Crimes against women and murders have been increased in the year 2017 in the city. Along with these, crimes against children, white collar offences, house burglaries and cybercrimes also rose to a considerable extent. 

Visakhapatnam: Crimes against women and murders have been increased in the year 2017 in the city. Along with these, crimes against children, white collar offences, house burglaries and cybercrimes also rose to a considerable extent.

Addressing the media after holding a review meeting on crime with police officials here on Wednesday, Deputy Commissioner of Police T Ravi Kumar Murthy said that 6,476 cases were reported during this year in all heads of IPC as against 6,670 cases in 2016 and 5,708 cases in 2015. There were 3,156 law and order offences were reported while as against 3,183 in 2016 and 2,727 in 2015.

However, he said that the number of road accident deaths has been decreased in the year. Meanwhile, the police claimed that the law and order situation was under control in Visakhapatnam city due to the efficient gathering of reports by the intelligence agencies, prevention, quick response, augmentation of forces in strategic locations and utilisation of advanced technology.

In the 2017, as many as 997 crimes against women have been reported against 931 in 2016 while it was 817 in 2015. Talking about the murders, the DCP said that 37 murders and two murders for gain were reported in the year against 33 in 2016 and 23 in 2015.

As many as 117 cases of crime against the children were reported during in the year. The DCP said that stringent action was being taken to control crimes against the children by forming SHE teams, visible policing, constant moving of D-Colts/Blue Colts and Rakshaks.
