Chittoor: The stage has been set to shift the Government General Hospital, Chittoor to Madanapalle with an objective of handing it over to Apollo Group of Hospitals in a full-fledged manner, according to an official information. The government has already announced its decision to upgrade Madanapalle Area Hospital as District Headquarters Hospital.

It may be recalled that the AP government has handed over the management of Chittoor Government Hospital (CGH) for Apollo Hospitals three years ago on clinical attachment basis for 33 years contract.

In turn, the Apollo management has established its medical college at Chittoor two years ago. As a result, the medical officers belonging to Andhra Pradesh Vaidya Vidhana Parishad, working in Chittoor Government Hospital have expressed their serious concern over hand over of management of Chittoor Government Hospital to Apollo.

Senior doctors have openly opposed the domination of Apollo management in Chittoor Government Hospital. Health Minister K Srinivas, who visited hospital recently categorically declared that the interests of government doctors of CGH would be protected at any cost, ruling out the shifting CGH to Madanapalle.

Speaking to The Hans India here on Sunday, Dr Paul Ravi Kumar, President, APVVP Medical Officers Association, Chittoor regretted the government’s move of shifting CGH to Madanapalle. “It is highly ridiculous on the part of government to degrade the services of government doctors. How CGH can be be merged with an Area Hospital, he asked.

The medical officers working in CGH are extending their full cooperation for Apollo management in the interest of the patients,” he added. He further said government doctors would oppose the move of shifting of CGH to Madanapalle.

He decried that the Apollo management has already taken CGH under its control long back. Asked to comment on the government’s move, CPI leader Nagarajan condemned the shifting of CGH. He slammed the TDP government for planning to privatise all the government hospitals in the state.
