Tirupati: The re-entry of senior politician and three-time Minister Patnam Subbaiah into TDP fold last week though generated heat, could not trigger much surprise in Palamaner constituency as people there were aware of the modus operandi of their MLA and Industries Minister N Amaranatha Reddy.
Though he served TDP as its district president and MLA from Punganur for two terms and his father N Ramakrishna Reddy for three terms from the same constituency, he shifted his loyalties to YSRCP in 2014 elections and contested from Palamaner segment.
After he shifted to YSRCP, keeping in mind the relations of Patnam Subbaiah with the people in the constituency, Amaranatha Reddy managed to get him along with his followers into YSRCP just a few days before polling, in a bid to weaken TDP.
Also, several second and third rung leaders of TDP were also influenced by him to come under YSRCP umbrella which clearly indicated his intention of making TDP candidate RV Subash Chandra Bose weak. As Bose was new to elections and failed in election management, he lost the election to Amaranatha Reddy by a meagre majority of below 3,000 votes. Subbaiah later bid adieu to YSRCP and joined the BJP.
Amaranatha Reddy also shifted his loyalties towards TDP again and was rewarded with Minister portfolio too. With 2019 elections fast approaching, he was implementing same tactics he played in 2014 by trying to woo back others from YSRCP to TDP, who left the TDP along with him.
The cadre, who were in the party even in tough times, were being deliberately sidelined and given priority to turn coats, commented a leader. With the turncoats’ entry into the party, Bose was put in a tight corner now. Speaking to The Hans India, he expressed his dissatisfaction over the developments in the party. “I have spent lot of money during several elections including local bodies.
Party has not paid a single rupee to me. At the time of Amaranatha Reddy’s entry into party, the TDP has assured me that I will be given a suitable place but that was not fulfilled. I came to know about Subbaiah’s entry into the party through newspapers. Things were going on in the party that as if my presence is not required at all in the party,” Bose maintained.
Regarding the future, he observed that several equations were changing, and it is too early to tell anything at this juncture. On the other hand, there was a surprise in party quarters that when there is no chance of getting party ticket from Palamaner in the next elections, what else was offered to Subbaiah to woo him into the party. Unconfirmed reports opined that the three-time MLA and three-time Minister Subbaiah might have offered Chittoor MP ticket or Putalapattu Assembly ticket. However, efforts to contact Subbaiah went in vein.
