State government and Railway authorities have been contemplating with the idea of constructing either Rail Over Bridges (ROBs) or Rail Under Bridges (RUBs) at the nine level crossings from Srinivasa Mangapuram to Venkateswara Theatre in Tirupati on priority basis and taking into consideration of the budgetary aspects.
Tirupati: State government and Railway authorities have been contemplating with the idea of constructing either Rail Over Bridges (ROBs) or Rail Under Bridges (RUBs) at the nine level crossings from Srinivasa Mangapuram to Venkateswara Theatre in Tirupati on priority basis and taking into consideration of the budgetary aspects.
The issues were discussed at the meeting of Chief Secretary Dinesh Kumar with Railway, Revenue and Municipal Corporation officials in Tirupati on Saturday. It is decided to take up RUB works in Tirupati Rayalacheruvu gate immediately for which the railway authorities invited tenders.
South Central Railway General Manager Vinod Kumar Yadav explained Tirupati railway station redevelopment plans to the Chief Secretary which they are proposed to take up with an estimated cost of Rs.480 crore which will be mobilised by selling the commercial spaces. It was proposed to develop the station in a total area of 10 lakh sq ft in which 5 lakh sq ft will be used for railway needs and the remaining space will be used for commercial development.
The proposed plan will have four drop in points and four pick up points for passengers with a parking facility for 1000 vehicles in which 550 cars and 450 two wheelers including cellar parking for 350 vehicles. On the south side of the station a new building with eight floors will come up wherein the first floor will be for operational purposes and the remaining floors for retiring rooms, passenger amenities, hotels etc.
It was learnt that on the northern side the existing railway Reservation Complex will be demolished to get a picturesque view of Govindaraja Swamy Pushkarini. Briefing the media, District Collector PS Pradyumna said that as part of the redevelopment plans Railway authorities have requested TTD for three acres of land near West Station which will be considered by the TTD officials.
Railway GM has said that railway authorities have already approved the plans and they were discussed with the State Government to finalise the action plan. Once started, it will be completed in three years. It will be a joint effort of ministry of railways and state government as lot of issues like laying approach roads, diverting the drains etc are involved in it.
TTD EO AK Singhal, Joint Collector PS Girisha, ADRM KRK Raju, PCCM Gunasekhar, Sr DCM Rakesh, Station Director K Satyanarayana, RLDA and NCCB officials also took part in the meeting.
