A two-day workshop on pelviacetabular trauma management under the aegis of KIMS ICON Hospital began here on Saturday on the hospital premises. 

Visakhapatnam: A two-day workshop on pelviacetabular trauma management under the aegis of KIMS ICON Hospital began here on Saturday on the hospital premises.

The pelviacetabular trauma management needs special expertise as it can be a cause of severe disability or mortality, and training for the courses is best done on cadavers where dead teach the living.

Speaking on the occasion, Managing Director of KIMS ICON Hospital and Course Convener Dr P Satish Kumar said that earlier surgeons used to pay a visit to overseas for the training by spending huge sums and it has been a long-awaited dream of the surgeons of this part of the country to have such a course nearby.

For the first time in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, KIMS ICON Hospital in association with the Department of Anatomy and Orthopedics, Andhra Medical College, is organising the first ever cadaver workshop on pelvi-acetabular trauma by national faculty Dr Ramesh Sen from Delhi, Dr Pradeep from Mumbai, Dr Srinivas from Hyderabad and local faculty, he explained.

On the first day, the workshop was conducted at KIMS ICON Hospital and the cadaveric dissection would be conducted by the Department of Anatomy, Andhra Medical College, on Sunday.

The Andhra Medical College is planning to start Cadaver Lab at a cost of Rs 1 crore.

Prof and HoD of Orthopedics Dr Dharma Rao said many programmes should be organised for the benefit of young orthopedic surgeons and in turn for the benefit of society.

Prof of Orthopedics of Andhra Medical College Dr P Ashok Kumar, Head, Ortho, KIMS ICON, Dr B Uday Kumar, Chief Operating Officer of KIMS ICON Sukesh and General Manager S Srinivas were present.

Over 75 orthopedic surgeons from across the country were attending the workshop.
