Vizianagaram: The people in rural areas in the district are suffering from seasonal diseases like fever and dengue as the epidemic season starts from June. The water sources in these villages are being contaminated as the rains are polluting the drinking water.

Even the wells and tubewells are being polluted. The people in these villagers are forced to consume contaminated water as they have no other source than drinking the water.

The residents of Kurupam, Komarada and GL Puram mandals are approaching the private medical practitioners for first aid and if the situation deteriorates, they are rushing to the nearest towns like Parvathipuram, Bobbili and Vizianagaram to consult qualified doctors.

Remote villages in Pachipenta, Kurupam, Salur and Komadarda mandals are the worst-hit and every year many people are being affected with malaria, typhoid and other diseases.

People of Kandivalasa, Kummarigunta, Konavalasa and other remote villages are depending up on the local streams and borewells. The people of these villages won’t take protective methods and not even boil water before consuming it.

Hence, it is leading to unhealthy condition in those villages. Sarpanch of Kummarikunta panchayat K Polinaidu said: “We have been consuming water directly from the wells. We know that it is not good for health, but we don’t have alternative than consuming the water. If the government provides protected water to our villages, our people will be protected from the diseases”.

During this season, number of dengue fever cases are raising. Even in the beginning of the season, around 20 dengue cases were reported officially so far and even the private nursing homes also receiving fever cases and after three days they are being confirmed as dengue.

Rapid downfall of platelets is the symptom of dengue and if patients could not identify within two to three days, they may die. Dr G Thirupathi, pediatrician of Vizianagaram said: “The number of fever cases are on the rise in the past 10 days.

It seems that consuming of contaminated water and spread of mosquitoes are major reasons for the dengue and malaria cases. People should be cautious during the rainy season and consult doctor immediately if they are suffering from fever”.

District medical and health officer Dr V Venkata Rao said: “We are prepared to face any emergency situation during this season and procured medicines. If anything happens, we will rush to those villages and conduct special medical camp and bring the situation under control”.
